Roles and Responsibilities

 

DEVELOPMENT TEAM

As a team, we share common goals and every one of us has a role to play in the design of online courses. Together, we complement each other, bringing our talents, skills, and knowledge to the process.

FACULTY COURSE DEVELOPER

Subject area expert proposing and teaching the course.

  • Ensures equivalency of course content between the online and the on-ground version of the course.
  • Develops course goals, student learning outcomes, and objectives.
  • Curates and creates instructional content (readings, lectures, activities, etc.).
  • Develops assessments.
  • Implements teaching and interactive tools with the assistance of an instructional designer.
  • Collaborates with the ID to transition the class into an online format.
  • Adheres to the written development schedule established jointly with CGS/CGS Online Learning.
  • Does final proofreading of all instructional materials.
  • Teaches the class and assesses for quality and improvements.
  • Revises the instructional materials to enhance student learning.

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER

Staff member with expertise in online learning pedagogy and technologies.

  • Offers training and consultations.
  • Assesses gaps and needs.
  • Provides guidelines for course development and recommendations on effective online teaching strategies, activities, assessment models, and educational technology tools.
  • Builds learning modules and creates multimedia assets.
  • Configures and tests tools, troubleshooting basic technical problems.
  • Monitors online project scope and benchmarks in conjunction with faculty members to ensure timely completion of course materials.
  • Liaises with University units and identifies resources.
  • Conducts course quality reviews.
  • Provides ongoing support during the first offering.

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION

OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR OF ONLINE LEARNING

Provides oversight of team activities and course development process and evaluation.

  • Collaborates with academic departments to identify course development opportunities and instructors.
  • Coordinates and oversees the course proposal and approval process.
  • Prepares development contracts.
  • Provides feedback on course design, mid-point, and final quality reviews.
  • Approves completed courses.
  • Reviews end-of-course faculty evaluations to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Administers the mini-grant program.
