Who We Are
Lambda Alpha Epsilon (LAE), the Grand Chapter of the National American Criminal Justice Association (ACJA), brings together students and professionals interested in the criminal justice field.
At the University of Pittsburgh, the Alpha Psi Omega chapter represents students in Administration of Justice, Legal Studies, and Law, Criminal Justice, and Society.
Our Mission
Our mission is to connect students in criminal justice-related programs with employers and professionals already established in the field, while helping members understand the complexity of the criminal justice system.
We seek to educate our communities about current criminal justice issues and give back to charities and organizations working to improve and support different aspects of criminal justice. The overarching goal of Alpha Psi Omega–Lambda Alpha Epsilon is to improve criminal justice in both principle and practice.
What We Do
Improve criminal justice through educational activities.
Foster professionalism in law enforcement agencies.
Promote professional, academic, and public awareness of criminal justice issues.
Encourage the establishment and expansion of higher education and professional training in criminal justice.
Promote a unified voice for professionals and students in the criminal justice field.
Promote high standards of ethical conduct, professional training, and higher education within criminal justice.
Membership Qualifications
Membership in the association is open to persons who meet one or more of the following qualifications:
- Are 18 years of age or older.
- Are currently employed, or were employed at the time of application, in an area concerned with the administration of criminal justice.
- Are honorably retired from a career in an area concerned with the administration of criminal justice.
- Are enrolled in a criminal justice-related program of study at a college or university accredited by a recognized national or regional accreditation association.

The CGS LAE chapter is not currently active. If you are an LCJS major and are interested in helping revive the chapter, please contact Wes Hiers, Director of LCJS.
Another option is Legal Pathways, a currently active SORC-registered student organization. To learn more, please contact the student group president, Alexandra Benjamin.
There is some overlap between the groups, but generally speaking, LAE—organized under the American Criminal Justice Association (ACJA)—is more oriented toward criminal justice
