Dr. Amanda Sevilla is a faculty member in the Department of English. She earned a PhD in Rhetoric from Duquesne University. Additionally, she holds a Master of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Science in (English) Education from Youngstown State.
Related to digital instruction and distance education, she has Quality Matters Certification for Online Instruction in Higher Education. She also earned graduate certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). In 2020, Dr. Sevilla was awarded a competitive Teaching Excellence Award for her online course design and in-person pedagogical work at Youngstown State.
The scope of Dr. Sevilla’s professional preparation comes from a scholar-teacher model in higher education. Her speaking engagements and presentations at regional and international levels have showcased her qualitative work in Media Ecology, Rhetoric of Technology, Media Studies & The Toronto School, Critiques of Modernism, Digital Course Design, Podcast-Style Lecturing, Philosophy of Rhetoric, AI & Technological Change, Composition & Rhetoric, Writing Theory, TESOL, Sociolinguistics, and Pragmatics. Most importantly, she wholeheartedly enjoys working with students, faculty, and staff at Pitt!
