Boost Your Future with an Internship

Learn. Network. Advance.

Why Consider an Internship?

Internships are one of the best ways to gain hands-on, career-related experience outside the classroom. Even if you’ve worked before, an internship can give you an edge, whether or not it's required for your major.

You’ll earn college credits, build your resume, and make professional connections that can open doors in your field.

Who Needs an Internship?

If you're pursuing any of the following at the College of General Studies, an internship is required:

  • Public Service (major)
  • Media and Professional Communications (major)
  • Nonprofit Management (certificate)

But internships aren’t just for these areas, students in the Health Services, Criminal Justice, and Natural Sciences programs have also found them incredibly rewarding.

Where Students Have Interned

Our students have gained real-world experience at:

  • Local sports teams
  • Museums and arts organizations
  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Television and radio stations

Whether you're passionate about public service, creative work, or scientific research, there's an internship that fits your goals.

What You'll Gain

  • Experience that matters: Employers prefer candidates with hands-on work experience
  • Self-discovery: Learn what roles and environments suit you best
  • Classroom-to-career skills: Apply what you’ve learned in real-life scenarios
  • Course planning: Discover which classes align with your career interests
  • Professional networking: Make connections and build a reference list
  • Job opportunities: Some internships lead directly to full-time positions
