College of General Studies Scholarships

CGS offers several awards and scholarships to its students who are enrolled in CGS bachelor's degree and certificate programs. CGS scholarships are designed to support the needs and reward the achievements of our students. All applications are submitted through PittFund$Me, the University of Pittsburgh scholarship database.

Scholarships Currently Accepting Applications:

Tom R. Slone Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to benefit undergraduate students at the Pittsburgh campus who have a record of scholarship and academic excellence and require financial support due to documented financial need. Recipients may receive this scholarship for up to eight terms provided they: 1. Remain enrolled full-time, 2. Demonstrate financial need, 3. Meet the University's standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress

  • Must be enrolled in a CGS bachelor’s degree program full-time for Fall 2024
  • Must have a completed FAFSA on file with OAFA
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Application deadline: 8/04/2024
  • Students participating as mentors in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh are especially encouraged to apply.

William T. and Luce M. Ong Memorial Scholarship

This award supports CGS students who are the parent or legal guardian of a child or other family member.

  • Award is $2,500 per term
  • Must be enrolled in a CGS bachelor’s degree program for a minimum of 6 credits per term
  • Earned a minimum of 80 credits, with at least 24 completed at the University of Pittsburgh
  • Must have a completed FAFSA on file with OAFA
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Proof of dependent(s) will be required

Michael and Lola Quinlan Endowment Fund

This award is the amount of the cost of tuition for a 3-credit course to support CGS students who are part-time, non-traditional students.

  • Must be a part-time student (less than 12 credits per term) enrolled in a CGS bachelor’s degree or certificate program
  • Earned a minimum of 30 credits, with at least 6 credits completed at the University of Pittsburgh
  • Must have a completed FAFSA on file with OAFA
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

Anthony G. Novosel Memorial Scholarship

This award is for a motivated, non-traditional student, enrolled in a CGS bachelor’s degree program in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need.

  • Award is $1,250.
  • Must be enrolled in a CGS bachelor’s degree program for a minimum of 6 credits per term
  • Earned a minimum of 30 credits, with at least 6 completed at the University of Pittsburgh
  • Must have a completed FAFSA on file with OAFA with demonstrated financial need
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

CGS Special Student Award – Summer

This award is the amount of the cost of tuition for a 3-credit course and will assist students in the College of General Studies taking summer courses.

  • Must be enrolled in a CGS bachelor’s degree program for a minimum of 6 credits per term
  • Must have a completed FAFSA on file with OAFA with demonstrated financial need
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • The application deadline for this year has passed.

Summer Internship Scholarship

The Summer Internship Scholarship addresses the need to alleviate the financial burden and time constraints of an unpaid internship for motivated students who are enrolled in a CGS bachelor's degree program. Up to 5 scholarships available.

  • Must be registered for 3 internship credits (LCJS, CGS, NPHS, or PUBSRV 1900)
  • Must have a completed FAFSA on file with OAFA with demonstrated financial need
  • Must not be eligible for tuition remission
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
