Roger Klein, PhD

  • Psychology | Dietrich School

I received my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from SUNY/Buffalo and began my career at Pitt’s Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC), helping teachers to implement methods for improving student performance, using Skinnerian operant conditioning techniques (applied behavior analysis).

My interests switched to television news, and I was fortunate enough to join the NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh (WPXI-TV), as a part-time health reporter. I did similar work at CNBC and PBS. My research focused on learning from news and audience reactions to the news.

I developed and produced radio segments in Psychology for the all-news station in Pittsburgh (KQV, 1410-AM) and then began producing audio and video segments in Psychology for textbook publishers McGraw-Hill, Cengage Learning and SAGE.

I am a member of APA and SAG/AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of TV and Radio Artists), and teach a course called Psychology and the Media.
