“My internship in Dublin showed me that I’m capable of so much more than I imagined—professionally, academically, and personally.”
— Lilly Nesbitt, CGS Senior
Lilly Nesbitt, a senior majoring in Law, Criminal Justice & Society and Media & Professional Communications, spent her summer completing a full-time internship with the Irish Academy of Public Relations in Dublin. Living on the University College Dublin campus, she gained hands-on experience in PR, explored Ireland on weekends, and earned six academic credits toward her degree.
My name is Lilly Nesbitt and I am a senior double major in Law, Criminal Justice, and Society, and Media and Professional Communications with a track in Writing for the Professions. This summer I had the opportunity to participate in the International Internship Program in Dublin, Ireland. I stayed at the University College Dublin campus, just a 20 minute bus ride outside the city.
My placement was working for the Irish Academy of Public Relations, where I worked as a public relations intern. This experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to apply all the skills I have learned in my Media and Professional Communications courses to real life scenarios. It also allowed me to gain valuable hands-on experience in media relations, content creation, and strategic communication within a professional environment.
This internship was a 9- 5 placement, five days a week, but I also had plenty of time to travel and explore the city. The best times were cool summer days where I could meet my friends after work for a picnic in St. Stephens Green park. I had the opportunity to travel all around Ireland as well- seeing the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Arklow, Howth, and more! I also enjoyed discovering local cafés and traditional pubs, where I could listen to live music and experience the warm hospitality that Ireland is famous for.
Through this internship I received six credits—three for the CGS 1900 Internship requirement for Media and Professional Communications majors, and three credits for an elective. I gained valuable knowledge of the international world of public relations, made lifelong friends, and grew more independent and mature as I adapted to a new culture and way of life. It was truly an unforgettable experience that helped me grow both personally and professionally, opened my eyes to new perspectives, and gave me the confidence to keep exploring new places and opportunities in the future.
