Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society | University of Pittsburgh College of General Studies
Alpha Chi is the 45th Chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society — the nation's largest and oldest academic society for part-time and non-traditional students of continuing higher education.
The purpose of Alpha Chi is to bring into closer community those students who have demonstrated academic excellence in the University of Pittsburgh's College of General Studies, and to recognize and promote scholarship and leadership among the community of students in continuing higher education. Alpha Chi represents the top 20 percent of CGS' non-traditional and adult high-achieving students.

Who Can Join?
Membership is by nomination only. Students who meet the eligibility requirements listed below are selected and invited to be inducted into the ASL society in the spring of each year.
To be eligible, students must:
- Be enrolled in a CGS degree program
- Have completed at least 30 Pitt credits
- Have a minimum QPA of 3.25
- Be at least 23 years old

Celebrating 50 Years of Academic Excellence — our ASL Alpha Chi chapter's exhibit was on display at the Hillman Library from November 2023 to April 2024.
Scholarships
Alpha Sigma Lambda (ASL), the national honor society for adult and nontraditional students, awarded six $3,000 scholarships, fourteen $2,500 scholarships, and four $2,000 scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year. The College of General Studies is home to ASL's Alpha Chi Chapter.
Students who meet ASL's eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply. Membership in the Alpha Chi Chapter is not required to be eligible for an ASL scholarship.
