   TK Vinod Kumar has a PhD in Criminal Justice from Indiana University Bloomington. He has over three decades of experience in Government -working in India and with the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Sierra Leone. He has extensive experience in police administration, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, counterterrorism, training, and anti-corruption. His academic specializations are in policing, public order and democracy, ethnic conflict, counterterrorism, and quantitative techniques.

Research Interests

His research specializations are in policing, public order and democracy, administration of Colonial and Post-Colonial societies, ethnic conflict, and counterterrorism. In the area of policing, he has focused on the interaction between victims of crime and police, public perception of police, police legitimacy, police decision-making, and police organizational behavior. He has published over 20 research papers and book chapters in various journals, including Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice, Crime Law and Social Change, Policing- An International Journal of Police Strategies and Management, International Criminal Justice Review, and Asian Journal of Criminology. He has co-edited a Special Edition of Policing: A Journal of Policy and Practice on 'Policing the Crowd' which was published in 2020. He is on the Editorial Board of Policing: A Journal of Policy and Practice (OUP). His book ‘Public Events and Police Response. Understanding public order policing in democratic India’ has been published by Oxford University Press.
