College of General Studies

You started smart at community college. Finish strong at CGS.

Transfer the credits from your associate's degree or previous four-year institution and get the bachelor's you need in today's competitive job market.

We have more than 50 years of experience working with transfer students and others who want the personalized attention of a small academic community, the flexibility of courses that fit into their already busy lives, and the competitive advantage of a Pitt degree.

Your next move could be easier than you think.

Follow these easy steps to see how CGS can facilitate your transfer experience.

1. Call 412-624-6600 or e-mail CGS to set up a preadmissions counseling appointment, where a CGS representative will conduct an evaluation of your previous college credits and help you to create a customized plan to get you started.

2. Choose from our results-oriented degrees and certificates.

3. Apply to CGS.

4. As soon as you are admitted, you'll be assigned a dedicated academic advisor who will serve as your personal guide throughout your time at CGS, helping you choose the best courses to complete your degree quickly.

5. As a CGS student, take advantage of the McCarl Center. Its academic success programs, career development seminars, tutoring sessions, and many social and networking activities are designed especially for busy students balancing school with other obligations.
