Getting Started CGS Career Services
College of General Studies
University of Pittsburgh

Dear CGS Student or Alumni,

Whether you are changing careers, changing jobs, or just starting a career for the first time, you are now seeking a job that will be a good match for your talents and skills.

Some of the traditional information for a job search applies to non-traditional students and alumni, but there are some areas that are different.  Many adults already have job search skills, but perhaps they haven't used them in a while.  This Job Search Guide covers a variety of topics related to the job search, including: resumes, interviewing, job search planning, and internet resources.

For information about job search correspondence, evaluating job offers, and other job search topics, please see the University of Pittsburgh Career Services' Job Search Tool Kit under CyBer Career Counselor at www.careers.pitt.edu .  This website also includes
PantherTRACS, the on-line job search system of the University of Pittsburgh Career Services office.  You may register for PantherTRACS in CGS Career Services.

Other career resources available to you as a CGS student or alumni are: individual counseling appointments; career resource libraries, both in CGS and the main Career Services office; and information about job fairs held throughout the year.

Take advantage of all of these resources - let CGS Career Services assist you with your job search. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Sincerely,

Carol Stanton, M.Ed., M.A.
