Internships
Internships are valuable learning experiences that allow you, the student, to gain practical, career-related skills outside of the classroom. Consider an internship as part of your academic career, even if it's not required - you'll earn college credits while building your resume and meeting professional contacts.
Important Internship Facts
- Start the internship search process 6 months before the internship term begins.
- Students may complete an internship for 1 to 3 credit hours, and up to 6 with special permission.
- ADMJ, LEGLST, and CGS 1900 only : Grades for internships are reported as S for Satisfactory or NC for Not Completed. These courses are available in the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms.
- PUBSRV 1900 only : Grades for this internship are reported in regular letter grades. This course is available in the Fall only.
- Students completing an internship at a facility external to the University may or will be required to have a criminal background check, an ACT 33/34 clearance, and perhaps a drug screen to determine whether they are qualified to participate in the internship. Additionally, in order to become licensed or employed, many states will inquire as to whether the applicant has been convicted of a misdemeanor, a felony, or a felonious or illegal act associated with alcohol and/or substance abuse.
