Getting Started

We're Here For You — The Adult Learner

The support and guidance you need to reach your educational goals is right here. We understand that our students, by nature of being "nontraditional" or "adult learners" have unique needs. You'll find staff, administrators and counselors who will guide you, advise you and facilitate your experience at the University of Pittsburgh. And you'll find many other students with work, family and external obligations similar to yours.

While the quality of your education may be defined by a large internationally-known research institution, the quality of the student service you receive is on the order of a small and personal college. You can enjoy the benefit of a "big" education, but feel like you're one of the family.

Resources to support your education include:

Student Advising
You will have access to academic advisors during the day and in the evening, in person, over the phone, or via e-mail.

Financial Aid
The University of Pittsburgh Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA) reviews all university students' applications for financial aid. Click here for links to the OAFA website and other resources for you to search for financial aid. Also included are scholarships specifically for adult students.

Career Services
Our career counselor can assist you with all aspects of planning and managing your career. Click here for articles and web links particularly geared toward adult students.

Registration: Forms and Guidelines
The University of Pittsburgh does not permit direct online registration for credit courses. However, you can access registration forms and information here, as well as details about tuition and fees.
