Degrees BA in Humanities Bachelor of Arts in Humanities Humanities is a liberal arts major with a focus on courses from three Humanities departments. You customize this major to meet your interests and personal and career goals. Choose from a variety of courses with a concentration in three areas such as the following: classics, communication, English literature, English writing, history of art and architecture, philosophy, and theatre arts. A minimum total of 120 credits (approximately 40 courses) are required for a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Humanities. Of this total, students take a minimum of 36 credits (approximately 12 courses) according to the specifications on the right. The remaining credits required for the degree are outlined on the "Requirements for the Bachelor's Degree" sheet. Pre-Education Option The College of General Studies and the School of Education have collaborated on a curriculum under the Humanities major that incorporates all of the prerequisite coursework needed for admission into the certificate program in Comprehensive English Education. This option may be used by students interested in the Professional Year or the Master of Arts in Teaching programs offered in the School of Education. Completion of the prerequisites for the School of Education does not guarantee acceptance to their programs.

Students must earn a minimum of 120 credits to complete the Bachelor of Arts Degree. Of this 120 credit total, 30 credits must be at the 1000 (junior/senior) level. 

Choose a minimum of 36 credits (approximately 12 courses) from any three departments below. All courses taken must be humanities related.

1. At least five courses must be taken from one department and at least three courses each from two other departments.

2. At least one half of the major must be upper-division
(1000-level) courses.

3. All courses selected for the Humanities major must be approved by an academic consultant.
